Overview

Fenugreek is a small plant in the pea family. Its hard, squarish, yellowish-brown seeds are a staple in Indian cuisine, known for their slightly bitter taste that mellows upon cooking. The seeds are rich in fiber, protein, and a unique type of soluble fiber known as galactomannan, which contributes to many of its health benefits.

Fenugreek, or Methi, is a classic Ayurvedic herb for balancing Kapha and Vata. It is used to support healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels, stimulate digestion, and increase breast milk production in lactating mothers. For hair care, its high mucilage content makes it an exceptional conditioner, combating dryness, reducing dandruff, and imparting a beautiful slip and shine to the hair.

  • For an Ultra-Conditioning Hair Mask: Soak 3-4 tbsp of Fenugreek powder in water overnight to form a gel-like paste. Apply to the scalp and hair, leave for 30-45 minutes, and rinse thoroughly for soft, conditioned hair.
  • For Culinary Use: Add a small amount of the powder to curry bases for a traditional, complex flavor. (Use sparingly as it can be bitter).
