Overview

Black Pepper is the world’s most traded spice. It is the dried, unripe fruit (peppercorn) of a flowering vine native to the Malabar coast in Southern India. Its spiciness comes from the compound piperine, which is also responsible for many of its health benefits, including its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • French: Poivre noir
  • German: Schwarzer Pfeffer
  • Chinese: Hēi hújiāo (黑胡椒)
  • Arabic: أﺳود ﻓﻠﻔل (Filfil aswad)
  • Spanish: Pimienta negra
  • Russian: Чёрный перец (Chornyy perets)
  • Japanese: ブラックペッパー (Burakku peppā)

Known as the “King of Spices,” Black Pepper is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda. Its heating potency makes it a powerful digestive stimulant that burns toxins (ama) and clears congestion. It is a key ingredient in the formula Trikatu. It is also a “bio-enhancer,” meaning it increases the absorption and effectiveness of other herbs and nutrients, most famously turmeric.

  • As a Universal Seasoning: Use freshly ground pepper to add warmth and flavor to nearly any dish imaginable.
  • For a Decongestant Tea: Add a pinch of black pepper powder and a little honey to a cup of hot herbal tea to help clear mucus and soothe a cough.
  • To Activate Turmeric: Always add a pinch of black pepper whenever you use turmeric to significantly increase the absorption of curcumin.

The SUPHERB® Promise

Sourcing

We source our peppercorns from the lush, tropical regions of Southern India, selecting them for their high piperine content and robust aroma.

Purity & Processing

The peppercorns are harvested while still green, then dried under the sun until they shrivel and turn black. They are then ground to preserve their pungent flavor and potent properties.
