Overview

Turpeth is a large perennial vine with milky sap, found throughout India. The root of the plant is the part used in medicine. It contains a resinous compound called turpethein, which is responsible for its strong purgative action. In Ayurveda, there are two varieties, white (shweta) and black (shyama), with the white variety being preferred for general use.

French: Turbith végétal

Japanese: ターペス (Tāpesu)

Nishoth, or Trivrit, is one of Ayurveda’s most well-regarded herbs for purification and purgation (Virechana). It has a heating potency (Ushna Virya) and is used to pacify Pitta and Kapha doshas. It is a powerful laxative traditionally used in controlled detoxification therapies to cleanse the liver and digestive tract of deep-seated toxins. It helps to relieve severe constipation and bloating.

For Therapeutic Purgation (Practitioner Guidance Required): Traditionally, a small dose of the powder is administered with ginger juice, hot water, or milk as part of a supervised Ayurvedic detox program.
