Overview

The Indian Screw Tree is a small tree or large shrub that produces one of nature’s most unique-looking fruits. The fruit pods are green when raw and grow in a distinctive, tightly twisted or screw-like formation. These pods are dried until they are brown and hard, and then ground into a powder for medicinal use.

Marod Phali, which translates to “twisted fruit,” is a specific and highly effective herb in Ayurveda for intestinal health, particularly for infants and children. Its primary use is to relieve colic, intestinal cramps, and diarrhea. Its unique shape is thought to correspond to its action on the twisted intestines. It helps to pacify the Vata dosha in the lower abdomen.

For Abdominal Comfort: Traditionally, a very small amount of the powder is mixed with castor oil or honey and given to relieve intestinal spasms and discomfort.
Note: This herb should be used in small quantities and under the guidance of a qualified practitioner, especially for children.
