It is considered a sacred tree, and its use in supporting female reproductive health has been documented in classical Ayurvedic texts for thousands of years.

French: Arbre d’Ashoka
German: Aschokabaum
Chinese: Wú yōu shù (无忧树)
Arabic: أ و (Ashuka)
Spanish: Árbol de Ashoka
Russian: Ашока (Ashoka)
Japanese: アソカノキ (Asoka no ki)

Ashoka translates to “remover of sorrow,” perfectly describing its primary role in Ayurveda as the foremost uterine tonic and herb for women’s health. It has a cooling potency (Sheeta Virya) and is used to pacify Pitta and Kapha. It is traditionally used to support a healthy menstrual cycle, soothe discomfort, and tone the uterine muscles. Its astringent properties also help in managing conditions of excess bleeding.

For Female Wellness Support: Traditionally, Ashoka powder is prepared as a decoction. Boil 1 tsp of powder in 2 cups of water until it reduces to half a cup. Strain and consume once or twice daily, as advised by a practitioner.
For Skin Care: Due to its clarifying properties, a paste can be made with water and applied to the skin to help manage acne and improve complexion.
