OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

Ocimum basilicum is the basil most famously used in Italian and Southeast Asian cuisines. It is a member of the same Lamiaceae family as the other Holy Basil varieties but has a distinctly sweeter and less pungent flavor profile. Its essential oils give it its wonderful aroma and its gentle therapeutic properties.

  • French: Basilic
  • German: Basilikum
  • Chinese: Luólè ()
  • Arabic: رﯾﺣﺎن (Rayhan)
  • Spanish: Albahaca
  • Russian: Базилик (Bazilik)
  • Japanese: バジル (Bajiru)

This variety, often known as Sweet Basil, is the classic culinary basil. In Ayurveda, while different from Holy Basil, it is still valued for its ability to pacify Vata and Kapha. It is used to support respiratory health, improve digestion, and act as a mild nerve tonic. Its aromatic nature helps to clear the mind and senses.

  • For Culinary Use: Add the powder to pasta sauces, soups, and dressings for a classic sweet basil flavor.
  • For a Refreshing Tea: Steep a teaspoon of the powder in hot water for a tea that can help to clear the head and soothe the stomach.
