OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

The pods are the fruit of the Cassia angustifolia shrub. They contain the same active compounds (sennosides) as the leaves but in different concentrations. Their gentler action makes them a preferred choice for some individuals seeking constipation relief without the harshness that the leaves can sometimes produce.

  • French: Gousses de séné
  • German: Sennesfrüchte
  • Chinese: Fānxiè jiá (番泻)
  • Arabic: اﻟﺳﻧﺎ ﻗرون (Qurun al-sana)
  • Spanish: Frutos de sen
  • Russian: Стручки сенны (Struchki senny)
  • Japanese: センナポッド (Senna poddo)

Like the leaves, Senna pods are used as a stimulant laxative to relieve acute constipation. However, the pods are generally considered to be milder in their action and less likely to cause griping or cramping compared to the leaves. They contain a lower concentration of the active sennosides but are still highly effective.

For Milder Constipation Relief: Use in the same manner as the leaves, by steeping the powder in hot water. The dosage may be slightly higher than the leaf powder due to its milder nature, but it is best to start with a low dose.
