OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

Nirgundi is a large, aromatic shrub with characteristic five-leaved branches, which is found throughout India. The leaves, roots, and seeds are all used medicinally. The leaves are particularly rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, and essential oils that give them their powerful analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory, and muscle-relaxant properties.

French: Gattilier à cinq feuilles
German: Fünfblättriger Mönchspfeffer
Chinese: Huáng jīng (黄荆)
Arabic: ف ر م (Kaff Maryam) – A common name, though also for other plants.
Spanish: Sauzgatillo de cinco hojas
Russian: Витекс священный (Viteks svyashchennyy) – Often refers to the genus.
Japanese: ニンジンボク (Ninjinboku)

Nirgundi is a highly versatile and potent herb in Ayurveda, primarily used for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is an excellent herb for pacifying Vata and Kapha doshas. It is traditionally used to manage all types of joint pain, arthritis, and sciatica. The leaves are also used in steam inhalation for relieving headaches and sinus congestion.

● For a Pain-Relieving Poultice: Make a thick paste of Nirgundi powder with warm water. Apply this warm paste as a poultice over painful joints or swollen areas to reduce pain and inflammation.
For a Decongestant Steam: Add a spoonful of the powder to a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam to help clear headaches and blocked sinuses.
