Overview

Mucuna, or the Velvet Bean, is a tropical legume whose pods are covered in itchy hairs (hence the species name prurita). The beans inside, however, are a powerful medicine. Their natural L-DOPA content makes them a crucial herb for supporting brain health and emotional well-being.

French: Pois mascate
German: Juckbohne
Chinese: Lì dòu (黎豆)
Arabic: و و (Mucuna)
Spanish: Frijol terciopelo, Pica pica
Russian: Мукуна жгучая (Mukuna zhguchaya)
Japanese: ムクナ豆 (Mukuna mame)

Kapikachhu is Ayurveda’s premier tonic for the nervous and reproductive systems. It is a celebrated Vrishya (aphrodisiac) and is used to enhance libido and vitality in both men and women. Its most significant property is that it is a natural source of L-DOPA, a precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine. It is therefore used to support mood, calm the nerves, and as a tonic for the entire nervous system. It primarily balances the Vata dosha.

For Nervous System & Mood Support: Mix half a teaspoon of Mucuna powder into a cup of warm milk or a smoothie. It is best consumed in the morning.
● Note: Due to its effects on dopamine, it is best to consult with a practitioner before starting Mucuna, especially if you are on any medication.
