OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

Mace is not a flower, but the lacy, red-orange aril that surrounds the nutmeg seed. Both spices come from the same fruit of the Myristica fragrans tree. Mace offers a more refined and delicate flavor than nutmeg, making it a favorite in sophisticated culinary dishes, desserts, and spice blends like Garam Masala.

French: Macis
German: Muskatblüte
Chinese: Ròu dòukòu huā (肉豆蔻花)
Arabic: وزة ا ط ب (Jawzat al-tib) – Often same as nutmeg

Japanese: メース (Mēsu)

Mace, or Javitri, is a highly prized spice in Ayurveda for its digestive and carminative properties. Its warming and stimulating nature pacifies Vata and Kapha. It is used to improve appetite, relieve gas and bloating, and as a natural breath freshener. It is also considered a mild nerve tonic, helping to calm the mind.

As a Culinary Spice: Add a pinch of mace powder to desserts, baked goods, savory sauces, and rice dishes to impart a warm, aromatic flavor.
For a Digestive Tonic: A very small amount can be taken with honey to help soothe the stomach and improve digestion.
